“My music will tell you more about me than I ever will.“
Alright, so it’s not always the case with anime, but I have been thinking a lot recently about the music surrounding anime. I don’t know why, I just have. I certainly don’t have a problem with that – anime music is pretty good, after all. So, today I’m going to be sharing with you what my favourite anime OPs are. Well, some of them, anyway. There’s too many to list them all!
So, without further ado, let’s go. And in true X-Factor fashion – staying topical; the new UK series has just started, much to my dismay – it’s in no peculiar order, of course.
- For Fruits Basket – Ritsuko Okazaki (Fruits Basket)
There’s simply one word to describe this song: beautiful. Everything from the vocals to the actual lyrics are simply beautiful. The lyrics “let’s stay together, itsumo” – or “let’s stay together, always” – is a line that has stayed with me from watching the first episode. It’s an emotional song, but it’s one that suits the anime well, for I can imagine the main character, Tohru, singing this. || Listen on YouTube here.
- Harebare Fanfare – MimimemeMIMI (Amaama to Inazuma)
Oh. My. God. This is beyond cute. This is fun. This is perfect for a series where one of the main characters is a kid at kindergarten. Seriously, this is a perfect song to play whenever you’re down, particularly if you’ve been watching the series this season. Would I have guessed that the vocalist was 26? Not at all, but hey- that’s talent for you. || Listen on YouTube here.
- Cagayake! GIRLS – Sakurakou Keion-bu (K-On!)
This is catchy. So catchy in fact, I know a good chunk of the lyrics on the top of my head, despite actually being only four episodes into the series. Its rock-like introduction that fades into a more pop-like song is spectacular and mixes two genres of music I like into one. What’s a bonus, even though you might expect it, is that it’s sang by the voice actresses who voice each character. Good job, guys. || Listen on YouTube here. - Never Say Never – TKDz2b (Danganronpa: The Animation)
This really shouldn’t come as a surprise to you if you read my review of the series, but I freakin’ love this song. In fact, at the moment, I think it’s verging on becoming an obsession. I’m not saying anything else, so just go and listen to it for yourself and let me know what you think because I think it’s great. || Listen on YouTube here.
- Jumping!! – Rhodanthe* (Kiniro Mosaic)
Uwaa! This is definitely one to dance along to! The music itself is cute, the anime is cute, the music video is cute – Rhodanthe* are cute. Honestly, I think I must have attempted to re-enact the choreography to this several times whilst watching the series… Who am I kidding? I still do. || Listen on YouTube here.
- Enamel – Sid (Kuroshitsuj: Book of Circus)
Alright, kids. Buckle up and enjoy the ride, because is a great finale. This song basically sums up Kuroshitsuji for me, personally. The synth-like sounds in the song are spooky, as the series is. There’s an awesome guitar solo as well, which is worth a listen in it’s own right, really. Sure, there are other rock songs out there in anime – One Punch Man, Death Note and, to some extent, Attack on Titan – all have them, but this is one that stands out for me. || Listen on YouTube here.
There are obviously a lot more anime OPs out there I like and love, but I think six is enough for the time being. Maybe I’ll do another post like this in the future? What do you guys think?
Now, it’s over to you! What are your favourite OPs? Let me know in the comments below!
Until next time!
