Anyone who knows me or follows me on social media will probably know that I’m a big fan of the K-Pop group SHINee. If you didn’t know, well – “Hi, I’m Amelia and I’m a big fan of the K-Pop group SHINee.”
SHINee have just reached their tenth anniversary this week and, although I somewhat refuse to believe that they’ve been around ten years and that their leader, Onew, is almost 30, I thought I’d celebrate it by giving you my top ten SHINee songs!
This list will be a mixture of both their Korean and Japanese releases, as I feel like some of these are so underrated and often go unnoticed! I’ve embedded a YouTube video of each song in this post, but feel free to listen to my Spotify playlist of this list as well! Nevertheless, let’s get started! (As always, this list is not in any particular order!)
1) Y Si Fuera Ella (2008)
A Jonghyun solo, this was one of the first songs that I listened to that made me think “Yes, I want to follow this group!” It’s without a doubt one of the most passionate sounding songs I’ve had the pleasure of listening to, and it’s one I continue to love listening to this day.
2) Get It (2010)
From their second album, Get It has always seemed to be one of those underrated songs I previously mentioned. Predominantly featuring Minho and Key’s raps, Get It shows a sexy side to SHINee that we never really get to see. Although it’s not the best SHINee song lyrically, it definitely gets you pumped for whatever you need to do!
3) Woof Woof (2015)
Woof Woof is certainly a track that only SHINee could pull off. It has the quirkiness that SHINee has always carried in their stage presence and personalities and puts with a jamming instrumental. If you want a song to shimmy along to, this is definitely the song for that! (Also, if you want a laugh, make sure you check out their live performance of this!)
4) Feel Good (2016)
This song does exactly what it says – it makes you feel good! If you want to calm down, there’s something about the vocals in the verses (particularly Jonghyun’s) that does just that. If you want to hype yourself up for something, the pre-chorus is great. If you just want to jam, well, the chorus is perfect for that too! I’ve never known a song carry so many emotions than this one.
5) Breaking News (2013)
This remains to be, to this day, one of my favorite SHINee releases. This was the first Japanese release I saw from SHINee and it made a huge impact on me. Everything from the instrumental to the music video’s aesthetic – I just love it! It also has one of my favorite raps in any SHINee song, so it’s worth checking out just for that!
6) Fire (2013)
From the same album as Breaking News, this song has to be my favorite ballad from SHINee. Sure, there are more ballad-type songs from them, but there’s something about Fire that I’ve always liked. Maybe it’s the charm that comes from the melodies, or maybe it’s the adorable lyrics that accompany it. I’m not too sure, but it’s a lovely song regardless!
7) 3, 2, 1 (2013)
Used as part of the Japanese drama Tokyo Toy Box’s OST, 3,2,1 is such a bop! It becomes so easy to sing along to this track, particularly on a nice, summer day. Personally, this is another of my favorite SHINee music videos due to its creativity and the styling of the members. There’s a super cool breakdown, which sadly the MV misses out on – definitely check this one out on Spotify if you’re interested!
8) Hitchhiking (2013)
This is another one that’s easy to sing along to due to the catchy chorus! I’ve personally found myself to be jamming to this every single time this is played. The instrumental again is quite unique and I love the way it all fits together!
9) Boys Meet U (2013)
As summer is around the corner, it’s time to bring out SHINee’s ultimate summer song! If you thought One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful was too catchy for its own good, you clearly haven’t experienced Boys Meet U. This was in my head for days when it was released. It’ll be in my head again now that I’ve listened to it for this post!
10) Colorful (2013)
Colorful is one of the few accidental Christmas songs that we stumble across every so often, in the sense that they released an MV for it during the week before Christmas. Still, it’s still a summery song and manages to maintain a happy tone, despite it carrying a lot of nostalgia value for fans of SHINee.
That’s it! They are my top ten SHINee songs! Of course, I do like most SHINee songs anyway, but I thought I’d show you all ten of my absolute favorites to celebrate SHINee’s 10th Anniversary!
You can listen to this selection on Spotify here!
What did you think of my list? Are you a fan of SHINee? Or K-Pop in general? What are your thoughts about the songs I’ve listed? Let me know in the comments below!
Until next time!
