It’s that time of the season once again.
It’s time to discuss what anime is going to be airing and what anime I’ll be watching for the Winter 2020 season. Admittedly, as I’ll mention in a future post, I should really be clamping down on my seasonals once again. Last season, I took on way too many seasonals to the point where I only watched a couple of episodes of each before forgetting them. That being said, there have been a few series from Winter 2020 that I’ve had my eye on for a while, so, although making excuses for myself, I’m going to excuse that goal this season and put it into place in time for Spring 2020 instead.
Haikyuu!!: To The Top
Sports, Comedy, Drama, School, Shounen
This should be a no-brainer, really. I love Haikyuu!!. It was the first sports anime that I genuinely enjoyed and there’s a plethora for reasons that I explore in my very first review here on A Girl & Her Anime. That was posted in June 2016. In October of the same year, the third season aired and yet, I didn’t watch it. It was only 10 episodes long and I wasn’t really into manga at the time, so I just waited, hoping that there would be a Season 4. I didn’t want the series to end. So, here we are with an actual fourth season and it’s at the top of my priorities for Winter 2020. I still haven’t watched the third season, but my plan is to watch an episode a day as a countdown for the premiere for the fourth season and I cannot wait to finally be able to watch Haikyuu!! at the same time as other fans in the anime community.
Plunderer
Action, Ecchi, Fantasy, Shounen
Plunderer is a series I cannot wait for! I’ve been interested in Plunderer for a long time now and, having read bits of the manga, I’m seriously happy that this is getting an adaptation. For those of you who don’t have a clue what Plunderer is about, it’s set in a post-apocolyptic world dominated by the Numbers. Each person has their identity branded by their own Count, which could define any number related to their life. It could be the number of kilometeres they’ve walked, the number of compliments they’ve given or countless other things. However, when the number drops to zero, this Count could drop them into the Abyss. In the year 305, Hina has been given a mission from her mother, whose count reached zero, to search for the legendary Red Baron. On her adventure, Hina meets several rather interesting characters such as Licht, a masked swordsman hiding his identity, known as being a ‘degenerate’ for having an incredibly low Count.
Pet
Mystery, Psychological, Supernatural, Seinen
Pet has been on my list since it was first announced to air in Fall 2019. Although it was postponed, I’m still very excited to watch it. Pet follows a storyline where there are people who can control people’s minds and memories. This power can be used to eradicate memories and cases, or worse – to assassinate. The potential of this power is said to destroy people’s minds, but it can backfire and eat away at one’s heart.
From the studio of Golden Kamuy and Kokoku, the director of Baccano! and Natsume’s Book of Friends and with music performed by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure (known mostly for the OP to Tokyo Ghoul), I’m very excited to see what Pet is like!
22/7
Music
The series 22/7 has been on my list since I knew it was coming out as well! The series is part of a multimedia project created by Yasushi Akimoto, Aniplex and Sony Music. The project is based around a digital seiyuu idol group – 22/7. As a group, 22/7 has 11 members and they’re constantly challenging themselves in several fields such as singing, live performances, YouTube and TV. The anime is part of their third anniversary celebrations.
Taken from the 22/7 wesbite, the synopsis of the anime is as follows:
One day, Miu Takigawa suddenly receives a letter notifying her that she has been chosen as a member of a brand-new project. Half in disbelief, she heads over to the location stated on the letter. There, she finds seven other girls summoned there in the same fashion. The girls behold a giant, top-secret facility. They stand in bewilderment as they are told: “You are going to debut for a major record label as an idol group. A new kind of idol, never-before-seen, is about to be born here…”
A3! Season Spring & Summer
Music
Admittedly, this one is a bit of a late addition to my list, but I’m very much looking forward to it! I’ve recently started playing the A3! mobile game and, whilst I was doing some research into it, I discovered that it has an anime series coming out next season! A3! takes place in Tokyo at a street called Velude Way – an area known for it’s theatre. Former actress Izumi Tachibana arrives with a letter that reads, “Full of debt! Zero customers! Only one actor!” It describes the current state of the once popular Mankai Company. Becoming the new owner and chief director, her mission is to rebuild the company to its former glory.
Winter 2020 also has a few OVAs that I’m interested in, including Haikyuu!!: Riku vs. Kuu, Tsugumomo OVA, Haikyuu!! (OVA) and the Tokunana OVA. Movie-wise, I’m quite interested in Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai: The Clouds Gather and Ongaku, but, as always, I’m sure it’ll be quite a while until I’m able to see these!
I’m going to keep an eye on a couple of others as well, such as ID:Invaded, Runway de Waratte, number24 and Natsunagu!, as these also interest me but not absolute priorities for me personally or I don’t know too much about them just yet.

I began reading Plunderer totally on a whim and I love it. I still need to grab Vol 2 of the manga before Vol 3 comes out, but it’s certainly made me excited for the anime!

I really liked what I saw (and read!) but, as with many, its been on my TBR for so long now! Hoping to get back to it soon.
