I realise it’s halfway through the month, but… better late than never, right?
And the popular saying “better late than never” is how I feel about going into this year’s No Way November challenge. This is an anime that is eight years old by this point and I haven’t sat and watched a single episode of it, despite it being brand new when I got into the world of anime and despite it consistently being one of the most popular anime since then.
That’s right, ladies and gentlemen. For this year’s No Way November, I will be watching Sword Art Online – a 25-episode action, fantasy, adventure series all based on the concept of VR.
Perhaps long adventure shows is something I’m ‘reserving’ so to speak for this segment. After all, last year I took a dive into the world of arguably the ultimate adventure anime – JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Unlike last year, though, I don’t have the bias against the show in question. I haven’t had to sit and begrudgingly endure episodes of SAO in the past. It has been an anime that has just existed, for me. It has been a thing. Some people love it, some people hate it. It is the Marmite of Anime, and that’s one of the reasons why I chose it for this year’s No Way November.
The other reason is a fairly trivial one in comparison. It has consistently been in the Top 5 most popular anime on the infamous anime website MyAnimeList.net and it has been on my homepage every time I’ve logged onto MAL. As of writing this post, it stands at third most popular show on the database website, with Death Note and Attack on Titan beating it to the top two and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and One Punch Man only just lagging behind at the fourth and fifth positions. These four shows I have watched to completion. It makes sense to do the same for SAO. It’s time to paint the entirety of the Top 5 blue.
So, the plan is to watch a couple of episodes of SAO each day for the rest of November and to then share my thoughts in a video at the end. (And, yes, I realise I still haven’t actually finished my JoJo video, but this year has sent me out of whack. Coming soon, I promise.)
As it’s coming up to the end of the year, why don’t you try to watch something you never usually would? If you’d be interested in doing something like this, let me know what you would watch!
Alternatively, let me know what you think of Sword Art Online! Do you love it? Do you hate it? Either way, I’m interested in your opinions!
“Some people love it, some people hate it”…well I’m in the camp of people who love it. It’s one of my favorite anime series, and the only anime I’m actually collecting merchandise from as well. I hope you are going to enjoy it😊 Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it!
Love to hear that you’re a fan of it! I’ll be sure to keep you updated! 🙂
Oh you’re going to have fun Amelia !as Raist saids it’s either a series you’ll like or not. I picked sword art online back up recently and watched second season as I watched first god 7 sevens ago now maybe longer? I wasn’t sure how to feel when I starting watching second season but quickly reminded how much I dig kirito and asuna as a power couple !!!
Ooh, interesting! I hear people arguing about Kirito and Asuna quite a lot, I’m sure I’ll form my opinion soon! 🙂
Good luck. 😛
Thank you! 😛
